Levelling Up Health and Wellbeing

Forever Active

Supporting residents who are at risk of falls

Forever Active is a Chelmsford Sport and Community Wellbeing scheme developed in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The programme has been set up for residents who have become isolated and experienced a decrease in physical condition, therefore becoming more at risk of falls.

Focussing on rebuilding resident’s strength, balance and co-ordination, activities include, Chelmsford Active Gym, Forever Fit (Over 50’s), Aerobic Circuit Training, Bat and Chat, Heart and Sole Walks, and With You In Mind. With over 50 activities and classes within the database, the programme is built around the need to offer various opportunities for people of different abilities to choose from.

Primarily for older people of both genders who have lost physical condition during isolation throughout the pandemic and have experienced increased isolation as a side-effect. The chosen activities are low impact and build physical strength and confidence as well as social relationships and support.

Active Essex was able to provide insight into the existing offers of activity within the community and provided clear aims and objectives for the project concept. The Find Your Active Community Connector has added an additional support route to those who struggle to take the first step into a new activity.

The project is ongoing but seeing very positive outcomes for individuals involved. Forever Active have seen participants improve their physical strength, flexibility and balance. Many participants are considering the project a ‘lifeline’ and finding it helps them with re-emerging into society after the unprecedented isolation of the pandemic.

One of the most significant learnings from the project centres on the deepened relationships being within the community, particularly with class instructors and community-based coaches.

Our instructor was excellent and included everyone. Its been great initiative and I enjoyed meeting other people. I hope in time, more residents will attend the forthcoming events.
