Strengthening Communities

Chelmsford Hindu Society

Physical activity bringing people together

The Hindu community in Chelmsford, like many, had been negatively impacted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Online and then face-to-face sessions were offered to the community as a good way to bring residents together and help support them in getting active.

Many of the Chelmsford Hindu Society cultural and religious activities were severely affected by the pandemic, which has impacted a very vibrant community who are active and sociable. With a number of extended families with three generations living together in one household, Covid-19 was have a detrimental impact on peoples wellbeing, mental health and livelihoods.

During the Diwali ‘Festival of Light’ online cultural events, it was highlighted by the community the need for online physical activities for all ages to engage through dance activities on Zoom. Active Essex supported the Chelmsford Hindu Society through a Tackling Inequalities Fund (now Together Fund) to enable this to take place.
