Upskilling instructors to deliver FABS Classes

Active Essex funded a programme to upskill employees at the Leah Manning Centre (a specialist day care setting for older people) in Harlow, enabling them to deliver FABS (Flexibility, Aerobic, Balance, Strength) training.

The FABS training programme enables instructors to understand the major changes associated with ageing and inactivity, and how to support and motivate older adults to improve their flexibility, aerobic capacity, balance and strength.

The class proved very popular and the regular exercise has been proven to help individuals with their mobility and strength.

It was great to be able to help the Leah Manning Centre set up the seated exercise classes for people aged over 65 and to deliver the training programme to enable their workers to continue with it. They now feel comfortable delivering safe exercise classes for the community.
