Active Essex Foundation
Over the past 4 years, the Foundation has focused on areas of deprivation including Basildon, Thurrock, Debden, Harlow, Jaywick and Canvey. Many of the young people are at risk of becoming involved in the criminal justice system, therefore the work of the charity is paramount.
Achievements to date include:
Initially as the target audiences were so broad, the team were unable to become experts in supporting the specific groups and their needs. However, the Foundation have been able to bring together like-minded organisations to share experiences and learnings to develop county-wide offers. By working together collaboratively and not in isolation, they are able to provide a wide range of opportunities for young people.
During the growth of the Foundation, has seen its successful bid writing develop from small grant organisations to larger funders such as the National Lottery and Children in Need.
It’s biggest success to date has been adopting a whole-systems approach in developing projects to engage young people who suffer from a number of inequalities. It is their hope to continue to provide opportunities for young people who suffer with poor mental health, lack positive role models or live in areas of deprivation, to help lead a better quality of life.
